This handmade Viking sword is built in the spirit of the classic Norse blades of the Viking Age. The long, straight, double-edged blade is forged from Damascus steel, with a mirror-polished finish and a central fuller that carries a flowing Damascus pattern down the length of the blade. The fuller lightens the blade and gives it a balanced feel, while the Damascus pattern makes every sword one of a kind.

The handle is shaped from natural wood with a black micarta spacer, finished with a traditional oval guard and a disc pommel in the style of Viking-era swords. The sword comes with a scabbard for safe storage, transport, and display, so it is ready to hang on a wall or sit in a collection from the day it arrives.

A Short History of the Viking Sword

The Viking Age is generally dated from about 793 AD to the middle of the 11th century, and during this time the sword was one of the most prized weapons in Norse society. Swords were costly to make, so they were usually owned by wealthy warriors and chieftains, and they were seen as symbols of status, honor, and loyalty. Many were passed down through families as heirlooms, and some were even given names. Swords were also often buried alongside their owners, which is one reason so many have been found by archaeologists today.

A typical Viking sword was straight and double-edged, with a fuller down the blade, a short guard, and a pommel at the end of the grip. Norse smiths were known for pattern-welding, a method where rods of iron and steel were twisted and forged together to make a blade with a distinctive wavy pattern. Modern Damascus steel has the same layered, flowing look, so this sword carries on that tradition. This sword is inspired by these historic blades and is made for collectors, history lovers, and Viking enthusiasts.
